Way2Deep

about

On the surface, “Way2Deep” might seem like a continuation of the lighthearted, vacation-themed tunes that characterized Ode Broham’s i need a vacation EP from November. The track’s vibrant energy, crafted by producer Drum Fu, can easily sweep listeners into its rhythm, potentially glossing over the introspective and somber narrative woven into its lyrics. But as the chorus unfolds, the song's true essence emerges, compelling listeners to confront its deeper themes. “I don’t wanna be here right now” Ode resonates over a fading beat, metaphorically plunging the audience beneath the surface of its upbeat exterior to reveal a struggle with disconnection and overstimulation, “I don’t wanna be in way too deep.”

“Way2Deep” is the 2nd all new single to the deluxe version of Ode Broham and Drum Fu’s i need a vacation EP due for release in May. Following in the steps of, previous single, “Blowing Mines”, “Way2Deep” discards the original EP’s happy vacation vibes to delve into the underlying reasons behind our collective yearning to get away. “I used to have a good day on occasion” Ode Broham articulates a sense of disillusionment that resonates with many “I find nowadays that ain’t the case.” “Way2Deep” masquerades as a groovy beach song while actually depicting the point-of-view of someone overstimulated to the point of being underwhelmed by everything and feigning enthusiasm for interactions that would have once been natural and joyful. The track masterfully balances this introspection with an upbeat melody that could effortlessly underscore a beachside gathering, making it a poignant yet paradoxically uplifting piece.

“Way2Deep” is due for widespread digital release via Children Playing Records on April 23rd, 2024.

lyrics

Let's go

Here comes the wave everyone's riding
Fuck
Get out the way
Find a place to hide and duck
It'll be a day when everything's lining up
Everything online really won't align with ya
And you'll get hit up then sit up to get up
Get hit up again
When ya wan give all this shit up
Remember that this ain't the end
Niggas wanna dress up the mess up
But fess up 'cus this ain't pretend
When it all depends
Deep End
Yeah

I been here for days and days and days
I've become a major waste of space
An emergency
Please break the case
I used to have a good day on occasion
I find now a days that ain't the case
I'm thinking that I might need a vacation
Definitely need to get away
'cause

I don't wanna be here right now
I don't wanna be
In way too deep
Yeah
Why do I feel like I'm drowning?
Everyone sees
It's way too deep
Yeah

Better have a paddle when the tide comes in
Cus that's when we'll find out if you can't swim
We hear when you cry out waving your limbs
That's him
That's him
Yeah

In the era of aesthetics
I think it's pathetic
Cus people ain't real
They got reels that they edit
Don't know how to feel
'cause the feeling's foreign
We don't know how to feel no more
Wounds that won't heal no more
But Ima play chill of course
Feign enthusiasm when you're
Overstimulated and bored

I don't wanna be here right now
I don't wanna be
In way too deep
(Yeah)
Why do I feel like I'm drowning?
Everyone sees
It's way too deep
Yeah
